Practice questions
Question 1 · The covenant
Arrange in the correct order: (i) Isaac is born (ii) Abram leaves Haran for Canaan (iii) Abram's name is changed and circumcision given (iv) Jacob and Esau are born.
Show answer and explanation
Answer: B. ii, iii, i, iv
Abram left Haran at 75 (Gen. 12:4); the name change and circumcision came at 99 (Gen. 17); Isaac was born when Abraham was 100 (Gen. 21:5); Jacob and Esau were born to Isaac later (Gen. 25:26). The other orders put Isaac's birth or the name change in the wrong place.

Question 2 · The covenant
Which feature distinguishes the new covenant in Jeremiah 31:31-34 from the covenant made at Sinai?
Show answer and explanation
Answer: D. The law would be written on the people's hearts
Jeremiah 31:33 says, "I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts." The Sinai covenant was written on tablets of stone, so that option describes the old covenant. The new covenant was for all ("from the least of them to the greatest"), and sacrifice is not its feature.
